Part-time studies in short

Basic Information

Family commitments, employment, disability, competitive sports or other circumstances can make it difficult for you to keep up with your regular degree programme. To support you in those cases, the Technical University of Darmstadt offers you the possibility to study courses on a part-time basis.

Studying part-time gives you more time to finish your studies, meaning your workload per semester is reduced. The deadline to submit final papers is extended to give double the length of time (except in the Architecture degree programme). You can complete single academic years part-time as well as all of your studies.

Your part-time study plan allows you a standard period of study of up to twelve semesters in the Bachelor’s degree programme and eight semesters in the Master’s degree programme. One part-time year (two semesters) counts as only one semester (Fachsemester).

Flexible choices: You are allowed to complete more examinations than scheduled on your part-time study plan. Since you are visiting the same courses as full-time students, changing back into full-time studies is possible at the end of each semester.

Legal basis
